Window Shopping…for Windows

It is that time. Mark handed me a list of scribbled numbers on a stark white piece of paper. He said, “Those are the window dimensions. Get some bids.”

Mark needs to know specific windows that we are going to buy for the framing process of the house.

Needless to say, I haven’t ever ordered windows before. I loaded up the kids and went to a showroom to find out what options we have. Mark was clear that he doesn’t want cheap/crappy windows. He wants the material to be wood and the style to be awning and casement type windows. Apparently windows have a bunch of options…so I have a little homework to do.

So far I have learned:

  1. Materials- Wood, Composite, Vinyl and Metal
  2. Colors- Interior and Exterior
  3. Size
  4. Type- Single hung, Double hung, Awning, Casement or Fixed
  5. Grids – Many sizes and styles
  6. Hardware- Color and style

Between the 2 styles of windows I received bids for, the range is $12,000 to $21,000 for the whole house. Boy am I leaning toward the $12,000 price, but the $21,000 windows. Hehe.

I will contact a few more companies to get some more bids.
